There are many places to try japanese food in Kharkov. They are becoming extremely popular these days but restaurants "Yakitoriya" win the prize for now. The quality of food is the same in all their "spots". If you go with a company, we advise you to order so called "sets" of rolls and sushi - you will get a bottle of wine for free (the wine is bad though :( ) and 60% discount ;)
We've been to the first two so far.
As for the first one it is the biggest in area (and always the most crowded). Don't expect to see small japanese tables and japanese girls serving food. At the entrance a young Ukrainian girl in a shirt of "kimono" type will meet you and find a free table. The interior reminds japanese motives, but not the atmosphere. They have smoking and non-smoking areas but in evenings the smoke is everywhere. Be ready to wait for the food up to 1 hour (usually about 40 minutes). In the meantime you can get a cup of tea for free from a boy with a japanese long-spout tea kettle. The spout is about 1 meter - such kettles were used to serve tea to Emperors (servants were not allowed to get to them closer than 1 meter).
The second one is not that big but the awaiting period for making food is the same in spite of the fact that there are less tables. Even when there were 2 or three tables taken, we got our food in about 40 minutes after order had been made. The drinks arrived almost right away which gives additional points to the place ;)
